To Be an Ambassador to Lebanon: Challenges and Opportunities

Featured Speaker

H.E. Dr. Francois Barras

Ambassador of Switzerland to Lebanon

Wednesday, July 7, 2010

4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Issam Fares Center for Lebanon – Sin El Fil

Accredited Ambassadors have at least three major duties in their host country: to keep their governments reasonably informed of all related developments; to protect and defend the rights and interests of their fellow countrymen and institutions; and to maintain most amicable relations with all sectors of the host country. Lebanese agree that Ambassador Barras has done that and more. He was active at every level, social, economic, and political. He successfully introduced the Swiss system to the Lebanese and effected cultural and economic exchanges between the two countries. How did he do it? What does he take with him leaving Lebanon? Last but not least: What are his ‘last’ messages to the Lebanese themselves?
