Short Bio:

Filippo Grandi
was appointed Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine refugees in early 2010, after having served as UNRWA’s Deputy Commissioner-General since October 2005. Grandi's distinguished UN career dates back to 1988 when he joined the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), working extensively with refugees throughout the Middle East, Afghanistan and Africa. In 1997, he served as Special Assistant to the High Commissioner, and Chief of Staff at UNHCR in Geneva. In 2001, he returned to Afghanistan as Chief of Mission of UNHCR, then as Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General responsible for political affairs at the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
