'The Research and Policy Forum on Climate Change and Environment in the Arab World'

The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at AUB is pleased to announce the fourth event of its program 'The Research and Policy Forum on Climate Change and Environment in the Arab World' which aims to provide a mechanism that brings together AUB professors, other academics and researchers, civil society, and policymakers to formulate environmental policies in the Arab world and to mitigate the impact of expected climate change scenarios and other environmental challenges.

The fourth lecture in its series 'The Impact of Climate Change on the Arab World Lecture Series' carries the title 'Post- Kyoto Policies: How Can Arab Countries Meet Climate Change Challenges After 2012?'

The lecture shall be held on Tuesday, April 1, from 5-7pm, Auditorium B1, at the AUB College Hall, and delivered by Wael Hmaidan, the Executive Director of IndyAct- the League of Independent Activists.

Mr. Hmaidan is a co-founder of IndyAct, the League of Independent Activists, and the head of the 'Arab Climate Campaign' in the organization. The campaign aims at achieving a strong post-2012 climate policy in the region. IndyAct is currently building the Arab Climate Alliance to push strong climate policy through the Arab League.

His work on this issue started in his capacity as the Greenpeace campaigner for the Arab World, where he helped established the energy and climate change campaign in the region. He participated as a policy expert and speaker in several regional and international climate events. He is also a regional advisor to the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources of Germany (BGR) and UN-ESCWA.
