Former Deputy Prime Minister Issam Fares decried, in the strongest and most emphatic terms, the despicable crime that has claimed the life of Minister Pierre Gemayel. He deemed that it undoubtedly targets Lebanon’s stability and unity and impedes its attempt to overcome the difficult times it is presently experiencing.

Mr. Fares expressed his sincerest sympathy and deepest compassion for the family of the martyr and the nation for this tragic loss. He urged the authorities to utilize all possible means at their disposal to determine the perpetrators of this heinous act and bring them to swift justice.

Mr. Fares called upon Lebanese leaders to exercise a conscientious and extraordinary effort to reach an agreement that will resolve the ongoing perilous crisis. “Enough for the country to shed blood and tears, enough for the Lebanese to experience suffering and sadness, attend funerals, and fear for their present and future,” he said. “It is their absolute right to enjoy peace and security”.
